Our Officer Showcase-Part 2

Updated: Jul 18, 2021

As our new year begins here in Gettysburg, we give thanks that chapter members are healthy and able to meet virtually for the time being. For each meeting, and in between meetings, our officers perform important chapter roles and today we focus on the role of our chaplain:

As chaplain, my duties include taking part in the DAR meeting ritual, giving the grace before our meals, and giving the benediction at the close of our meetings. When I am notified of the need, I send out get well cards, thinking of you, and condolence cards to our members on behalf of our chapter. At chapter meetings, my report provides information about members’ illnesses or bereavement and on a happier note, significant birthdays. Beginning with a member’s 90th birthday, birthday cards are sent on our chapter’s behalf. Speaking of birthdays, namely 90th, 100th, and 100 +, it is my pleasure to notify the Chaplain General so she in turn can send greetings to members with milestone birthdays. Performing rituals for the installation of officers, and memorial services are also part of my role as chaplain. I’ve found that the national DAR website has a wealth of resources to assist me in my duties as Chapter Chaplain.
